| Now place the fourth wheel making sure that it is
in the jewel hole and leaning against, and meshed with, the third wheel
and pinion.
NEVER TOUCH THE INDEX WHEEL! EVEN GRIPPING THE INDEX WHEEL LIKE I AM HOLDING THIS FOURTH WHEEL CAN DAMAGE IT. |
| First, verify that the index and pawl fingers are
rotated out of the way. Then, holding the index wheel assembly by
only the pinion leaves, install it in it's jewel bearing. It will
stand more or less upright.
NEVER TOUCH THE INDEX WHEEL! EVEN THE LIGHTEST TOUCH CAN DAMAGE IT BEYOND USE. |
| I find that it is easiest to grip the second wheel assembly by the pivot when installing it. I also find that tilting it away from the third wheel lets me put the pivot into the jewel bearing without fighting with the meshing of the third wheel. |
| Now carefully line up and rotate all the wheels and pinions so that they are all meshed and standing as close to upright as possible. |
